Long-time no see, everyone.
I was busy taking photos of the scene so didn't update the new place.
This time I am going to tell you about my favorite place, Tamshui.
My university was located in Tamshui, so next time I wish I could introduce it. :)

Tamshui MRT Station

How to go to Tamshui(淡水)?

This is the most important part of the people who are new to Taiwan.

First, you have to go to Taipei, our capital city. Then take the MRT Red line.

Please look at the following Map, VERY CLEARLY!!! (I took it when I was at Tamshui.)

Tamshui is the terminal station of RED LINE so it's very easy to go. I always get on the MRT and then find a seat and Sleep. It takes about 40 minutes.

Then??

After go outside of the MRT station, turn right and you will see the bus station.

Then take ROUTE 26 bus and get off at Fort Santo Domingo(紅毛城). You will see the Fort at your right side.

 (Chinese name: 紅毛城 /hóng máo chéng/ )

Fort San Domingo

Why does it call Red Hair Fort in Chinese????

When it comes to Tamshui, we must talk about the colonization of Taiwan by Spain, Dutch and The British.
You can see many foreign buildings which are quite different from the Taiwanese style.
The Spanish colonized the Northern Taiwan and Dutch colonized the Southern. Tamshui is a town by the river so in 1628 The Spanish chose here and build a fort by wood in 1628. The original fort was attacked by an aborigine, then the Spanish rebuilt it again. After expelling the Spanish, the Dutch built one new fort near the original one, this one is the San Domingo we see today. The people at that time called the Dutch "the people with red hair, so the Chinese name is Fort of the red-haired.

When did the British come?

The British came after they signed the trade contract with Qing dynasty, they took over it and made it to be their consulate, the Former British Consular Residence.
After World War II, we got our land back from Japan, and now San Domingo Fort is the grade one listed historical site.

I am not an English native speaker, I was just a student who has been to study in Toronto for 10 months. I am still improving my English now, so if there's any mistake, please correct me. Thanks a lot :)
